: A Feline Chronicle
Cats Eyes.
We have four curious-eyed, cuddly cats. The oldest is Sicily, who is 14 years old, and lives with us. The baby cat and Lily live with our daughter in Bangalore. The Goonda resides in a village in Kodagu (Coorg), Karnataka, on a coffee plantation. The first three are neutered. However, Sicily birthed four kittens a long time back: two orange and two greys.
Baby cat with confused or wondering eyes, Lily with furtive eyes, Sicily with self-contained eyes and Goonda with knowing eyes. Goonda is demanding; he would jump on every lap to demand affection like a tax collector. he keeps three laughing dogs as his servants. He is faster than the dogs in getting to and eating food first. The Dogs keep a respectful distance when his lordship is gulping food. The baby cat is lazy, gentle, doesn’t keep servants, and likes to be petted. He watches every morsel that goes down your mouth. Lily, the youngest, hides. When she appears, she doesn’t like to be touched. She is furtive and considers everyone a potential enemy. Baby cat Bosses on her, he gets the first bite. Wherever baby cat goes, things fall. he is afraid of heights and is a poor judge of how much to jump, but he has learned the hoop.
There is then Sicily. She is balanced and used to going out on her own. Scared of dogs, she dances like a ballet dancer. Sicily is not a thief; she demands when she needs food. She doesn’t prowl much in the kitchen. When she walks, it is with such grace that she manages to avoid all obstacles. Nothing would stir from its position.
When stuck on a balcony sill, she has the intelligence to climb into the bucket and uses it as a lift. In an escapade, she jumped 12 feet up a generator roof and was unable to come down. Nobody saw that epic jump, evading bad-mannered labradors.
She is balanced in her behaviour, eats delicately, and leaves the food when full. She needs to be served every time, and she talks with her tail. Lily is also athletic, although not as graceful. Goonda is a wild animal; he does his own bidding, behaving as if the world is his cradle. All four are territorial. Babycat and Lily stay together, while Sicily needs a room of her own, and for Goonda, the world is not enough.
Sicily, the female cat, is orange, and Babycat, the male, is orange. Goonda and Lily have grey fur. The orange color is X-linked recessive. For a female cat to be orange, both her parents need to be orange. In other cases, an orange cat will produce a mixed brood. Sicily birthed 4 kittens, two orange males, and two grey females, thus confirming the hypothesis.
